Colour of Noise

Have I ever mentioned that I have a background in science? This  is forever affecting how I think about art and no more so than this current series.

At the beginning of the summer I found myself researching the types of noise each noise is define or named with a colour!  Noise is not the same as a musical tone, it's not even a single frequency, it's a range of sounds and depending on the volume of each frequency it affects us differently. People use noise to help sleep or focus, to calm or  invigorate. For me it inspired art.

This series is my visualization of each noise. Click each image to see it closer. What do you see, feel? How does the image affect you?

"Waterways"

I had so much fun with this piece. I had recently begun a neurographic course and was inspired to use lines throughout the painting as representations of movement and connection.

"Falls from Above"

Summer is camping season, a time to renew connections with the area I call home and to nature. I am more calm and at peace when I am camping perhaps because of the I connect to the noises of natural things better like water falling from the sky.

"Water Lullaby "

There is nothing better than falling asleep under a tin roof during a rain storm. Inside I am warm and dry while the sky roars and water torrents down upon the earth. And the noise - so low it sings me sleep.
